I just got back from the most amazing honeymoon anyone could possibly dream up. My new bride -
Kathleen and
I just spent 8 days surfing
Barbados on the Atlantic side as well as the Caribbean side. We thought about going to Puerto Rico but we read that the locals aren’t very friendly to US surfers and that you have to keep a sharp eye out for your stuff and there’s lots of ghetto. Well from a surfing/honeymoon perspective that didn’t sound very appealing. We then read a few different articles on Barbados and they all had the same thing in common, the locals are friendly, the scenery is amazing and the surf can fire if you time it right. Well the reports were true and we timed it right, the surf was on fire! What an incredible place to surf. We had both surfed Bali and we had just surfed Oahu's North Shore (that’s where I proposed on New Years Day) and we both agreed that Barbados had the better surf. The surf was well overhead, with long rides, occasional barrels and rippable all the way down the line.
But what really made the surf fun was the local attitude out in the line up… friendly, talkative, stoked and big smiles. Most of this was on the Caribbean side while Atlantic side was mostly windy much like the west coast side of Oahu. I did catch it pretty big and clean there at
Soup Bowls with only one local guy out named
Yellow, the only stiff lipped local on the island.
